Con un clima que parece no querer mejorar, pues la música movida no se puede sonar. Asi que para estos dias grises y lluviosos que estamos atravesando, pues algo que nos encharque un poco el ojo pero de una manera inteligente. Engine7, armado con pads y texturas, nos lleva hasta ese punto justo antes de caer al abismo del completo frío sonoro. Downtempo del mejor, con un toque de clicks & cuts y ambient.

Hace casi dos años ya, mis queridísimos colegas de pueblo nuevo editaron un asombroso y arriesgado compilado con motivo de su primer aniversario. Es un disco que está dividido en 6 partes, cada una manejando un tono, un estilo y una personalidad diferente. Se trata de 66 tracks para todos los gustos, que muestra en su mayoría artistas latinoamericanos y uno que otro proveniente de otras latitudes, en especial países de aquella antigua cortina de hierro. Aunque personalmente mi favorito de los 6 es el lado D, son altamente recomendables las otras 5.

Hace un poco más de diez años, se puso muy de moda un género lento, que se basaba en guitarras ruidosas que creaban capas y capas de sonido, muy atmosféricas por cierto. Hubo por supuesto varios derivados pero muchos conocieron la versión original como shoegaze y luego después a la ralentización del género como slowcore. Hombre, no te puedo negar que disfrutaba de muchos de los grupos de la época que hacían este tipo de cosas y pues les he tratado de seguirles el rastro hasta el día de hoy como es el caso de bowery electric (aunque para serte sincero podemos agregar como excepción a la regla a my bloody valentine, que la verdad nunca me ha parecido nada del otro mundo) . El disco en cuestión habla este mismo lenguaje. Un poco corto tal vez, pero lo suficiente para dejar ese buen sabor de boca a noventas y merecer ser recomendado.

PS: lastimosamente, luego de una corta búsqueda por google, me enteré de que el grupo solo publicó un disco y este ep contiene 3 temas de ese único esfuerzo…triste.
Bueno, pero para que la pena no sea muy dura luego de escuchar ese cortísimo ep les dejo un videillo que encontré en youtube de ellos

El sonido de stadtgruen se está haciendo ya muy característico, están creando un nombre siendo fieles a un estilo más que a una nacionalidad o colectivo musical. Y aunque trabajando de esta forma pueden hacerse algo tediosos y predecibles, cabe remarcar un par de discos de este sello. Asi, Frank Biedermann nos ofrece un sonido muy lógico para aquel que publique en stadtgruen. Un techno del mejor con muchos matices dub, pero un poco mas cerca del minimal que del dubtechno o de las texturizaciones que se crean debido a delays en obras publicadas en thinner. Muy recomendable y apto para la pista de baile.

Le llegó el turno a Comatronic: es éste el primer recomendado del sello pero no el último.
Tal vez algunos de los que indagan mucho en este mundo de la música libre conozcan ya a Philipp Weigl, por sus esfuerzos en Thinner y Autoplate, Pero como ustedes ya me conocen, prefiero no recomendar lugares tan comunes y por eso opto por dedicarle unas palabras a este hermoso ep.  Con elementos propios del ambient y muchísimas voces hipnóticas, Phillip Weigl se adentra en un mundo Dub y dub techno; pero a diferencia de sus compañeros de sello, Weigl maneja un aspecto melancólico muy bien definido que lo hace algo único entre tanto de lo mismo. Además con un título como Sometimes You Lose (even if you´ve tried hard) quien no se aventura a darle una escuchada…dime si no.

“The introductory “The Waiting” features chirring pads, sparingly used dub elements and lets you get acquainted with your companion on this half-hour long journey through emotion, melancholia and passion: Philipp Weigl. “Strangers” comes up with a set of rich pads, a nicely delayed piano pattern and minimal, straight-line beats. Like in “While You’re Sleeping”, Weigl’s voice is skillfully incorporated into mix and arrangement, thus creating a calm but elusive atmosphere. In “Sometimes You Lose” an alienesque voice is accompanied by predominant pads and a deep, wobbling bassline, while the slow-motion title track “Common Cause” makes use of clearer drawn vocal lines and completes a thoroughly intense and thought-provoking listening experience.”

Antes de que se dedicaran a eso del dub techno y se apropiaran de ese sonido etéreo tan común (y tan aburrido ya) en los releases de thinner, estos chicos, Roger Stucki & Nicolas Kellner, grabaron un par de discos más para 2063music.de, siendo este el mejor de ellos. Este disco fue publicado en 2003 antes de que 2063music.de, pasara por altibajos y largos recesos, pero de los que parece salieron hace poco. Breakfast At 2063 es Midtempo lleno de dubs, pads eternos y TB303 por doquier y pese a que blackcream no llega a agradarme completamente, el resto del disco me parece altamente recomendable.

Que maravilloso para algunos asuntos es last.fm, aunque tenga demasiados bugs de los que casualmente todos me afectan a mí debido al nombre de mi proyecto (si no entiendes refierete a este link [neuma]). Pero si para algo me ha servido last.fm es para conocer nuevas cosas y pues esto me paso con Mark.nine. Escuchando mis recomendaciones me topé con este artista y de verdad que logró conmoverme. Música que te sume en una especie de placidez auditiva, en la que pareciera que nada más importara. Lo único malo de este artista es que sus sites estan caídos quien sabe desde cuando. Asi que nos toca limitarnos a su disco en el glorioso pero tambien lleno de bugs, archive.org

El ambiente tranquilo, con pocas ganas o casi ninguna de ambientes solazados. De vez en cuando un disco bailable pero que se deje escuchar; no obstante empleando la gran mayoría del tiempo, en escuchar discos como éste. Un poco hastiado ya de disonancias y ruidos extremos, he estado buscando refugio en este tipo de música dócil y de una claridad infinita. Mansa y serena como debería ser la música en general.

A comienzos de siglo, cuando todo era house y sus derivados en estas tierras, recuerdo con gran aprecio al señor Bennett a.k.a. Micha Mirecki, con sus esfuerzos para Treibstoff y Pokerflat. Gratos recuerdos que volvieron en forma de musica al escuchar este maravilloso ep, que abre la larga lista de releases con la que ya cuenta Epsilonlab (obviamente muchos de ellos no tan buenos como este disco). Bennett que aunque hace un buen rato dejó de producir música para estos sellos, sigue produciendo y publicando en su sello propio llamado Kung Fu dub. Buena música, llena de ese sonido de Colonia que nunca pasará de moda.

Escuchar este disco me hizo recordar lo alejado que he estado en los últimos años del rock; y es que después de tanto tiempo de no disfrutar de grupos como guided by voices o silkworm, sentir de un momento a otro cierta revelación y ver la maravilla que me estaba perdiendo, me ha hecho revaluar ciertos conceptos y pensar que el rock no está del todo acabado. A Summer Spent Inside podría ser catalogado dentro de un paquete rock, y aunque no suena a guided by voices si tiene mucho de sonido lo-fi, guitarras distorsionadas e indie, solo que con algo de programación. Este disco de 3x!13, compuesto por dos CD’s (que seguramente deben ser escuchados en varias sesiones debido a su largo minutaje), es muy disfrutable y mucho más si no eres un fan asiduo del rock.
