What this is
Series Media is an independent publication about Latin American electronic music and the floors it is played on — the rhythms, the rigs, the records and the rooms.
We file by tempo. Everything published here carries a three-digit number, and that number — not a genre label, not a city — decides where the piece sits on the homepage. It is a filing device, and it is also an argument: a rhythm at 080 BPM and the same rhythm at 122 BPM are different objects, and organising the site that way keeps that fact in front of the reader.
What we are not
We are not a label. There is no roster here, no catalogue, no releases, no store and no demo submissions. We do not sell, licence or distribute music, and we are not affiliated with any label, artist or promoter. We are also not a ticket agent: you will find no line-ups, no event calendar and no prices on this site.
Artists, labels and venues are named where they made the record or built the room being discussed, and described factually. We do not publish profiles of living people, and we do not invent quotations, catalogue numbers or attendance figures.
Language
The site is written in English. A Spanish or Portuguese word appears where it is the right word — a rhythm, a dance, a place, a piece of equipment — and is explained in English the first time it is used.
How it is paid for
Partners are listed on the homepage under Who keeps the spine running. They pay for reporting, travel and photography. They have no say in what is commissioned, what is written, or what appears — and no partner is told in advance what a piece will say.
Photography
We publish rigs, rooms, records and equipment rather than crowds. Where a photograph carries a credit, that credit sits with the image.
Nothing on this site is dated. The subject is not news, and a piece about how a pattern behaves at two tempos does not expire.
